BIERBOWER FAMILY HISTORY
Jonathan Ayers Bierbower and his wife Lucetta Carey, came to Limestone, or Maysville in the early 1830s. Bierbower was a carriage maker by trade and his work laid the foundation for a business enterprise that lasted well into the 1900s. Their family home was built circa 1840 and according to Grace Bierbower, the last living descendant and resident of the house, in an area beneath the floor, runaway slaves were hidden until they could be moved across the river. Many original features remain: rock and brick flooring, street-level windows where once Union soldiers were fed, out of doors stone walkways and two vast porches with a view of miles of Kentucky and Ohio shoreline.
